The exhibition includes paintings, photography, poetry, sculpture and a sound installation of recordings from nature taken at the Deering Estate. Wallace's new body of work contemplates the natural rhythms and forms of the mangrove forests surrounding the Deering Estate and much of the South Florida coastline. Taking cues from the lyrical lines of mangrove stems and branches, Wallace creates hypnotic and enthralling paintings in vibrant hues and gold leaf that capture the energy and spirituality of nature.

Meg Wallace's art on set of 'David Makes Man' on OWN
"David Makes Man" is a one-hour lyrical drama from Academy Award winner Tarell Alvin McCraney ("Moonlight"), his first TV project. McCraney serves as executive producer of the series alongside Dee Harris-Lawrence ("Shots Fired," "Unsolved: The Murders of Tupac and The Notorious B.I.G.") who serves as showrunner. Mike Kelley and Melissa Loy ("Revenge") under their Page Fright production banner, Michael B. Jordan via his Outlier Society Productions and Oprah Winfrey are also executive producers. "David Makes Man" centers on a 14-year-old prodigy from the projects who is haunted by the death of his closest friend and relied on by his hardworking mother to find a way out of poverty. He must choose between the streets that raised him or the higher education that may offer him a way out. Set in South Florida, the series is inspired by events in McCraney's own life and explores childhood trauma and the power of imagination to survive.

Roig By Meg Wallace

Conception - Something conceived in the mind or believed by a group of people; a concept, thought, or belief: (ex. the medieval conception of justice.) The beginning or formation of an idea or plan: (ex. She was involved in the project from its conception.)
Roig - is a word stemming from Catalan word meaning red: to become very angry, to become enraged.
This pair was painted in 2014 after the violence broke out in Venzuela. Conception represents the initial intent. Demonstrators were demanding better security, an end to goods shortages and protected freedom of speech. Roig represents the level of the emotion and helpless rage after the peaceful protests faced unexpected violence leading to great loss and death.
Art grows and breathes life
Have fun on the journey. The process of an idea to the creation and exhibit takes time and vision to see it through.
Hawked-Meg Wallace →
Hawked: to be overtaken or surpassed
"The hawk is swift in darting down and grasping it's prey. This animal is a symbol of death, injustice, violence, and those people who prey upon the weak."

Prep to Paint
I take preparation seriously…
Prepping a piece
For each work of art I use similar techniques to build the texture and foundation of the painting. The preparation allows me to have a consistent and firm foundation to then freely create new pieces representative of what lies within my mind at any given moment of inspiration. MW

Phoenix Rising by Meg Wallace
Acrylic, 48"by 72"
A symbol of renewal, rebirth and new life out of the old, this painting is a reminder of the hope through hardship. A phoenix is a mythological creature that lives for eternity and is birthed out of the ashes of destruction.
